USI starts split schedule Thursday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Basketball starts the first of two weeks of split schedules when it visits the University of Illinois Springfield Thursday and hosts Lewis University Saturday. The Screaming Eagles tip off Thursday's action at Illinois Springfield at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday's NCAA Division II Showcase game versus Lewis with a special 3:30 p.m. tip.
 
Saturday's game is the NCAA Division II Showcase game, which will be aired live on NCAA.com as well as NCAA Division II's Facebook and Twitter pages.

USI Men's Basketball Week 14 Quick Notes:

Eagles upset #19/#20 UMSL. USI had to rally in the last five minutes to defeat #19 (NABC)/#20 (D2SIDA) University of Missouri-St. Louis, 67-66, with junior guard Mateo Rivera connecting on a free throw with 4.2 seconds left. Junior forward Emmanuel Little led the Screaming Eagles with his third-straight double-double with 21 points and season-best 16 rebounds.  

Longest winning streak of 2020. The Eagles matched their longest winning streak of the year, five games, for the third time this season with the win over UMSL.

Little moving up the rankings. Junior forward Emmanuel Little continues to make his move up USI's all-time rankings. Little ranks 16th all-time with 1,080 career points, 14 points short of 15th-place Cully Nelson (1,094), and seventh all-time with 666 career rebounds, 25 short of sixth-place DeJuan Rowser (691).

Double-doubles. Junior forward Emmanuel Little posted his eighth double-double of the season in the win over UMSL. Little has had three streaks of three-straight double-doubles this season.

USI in February. USI has been perfect in February (5-0), compared to a 6-4 mark in January. The Eagles have an 82.4-68.8 points per game advantage in February, compared to 74.3-73.5 points per game advantage last month. USI, also as a team, is shooting 50 percent from the field (159-318), 40 percent from downtown (32-80), and is controlling the glass at a 41.6-30.0 rebound per game pace. In January, USI shot 43.7 percent (255-584), 35.2 percent from long range (62-176) and had a slim 38.1-35.5 lead on the glass.

USI in the GLVC.  In the GLVC Point Rating System, USI moved to fifth in the conference with the five-game winning streak. The top eight in the point standings qualify for the GLVC Tournament in March. The Eagles also moved up into a tie for third in the GLVC standings.

USI at Illinois Springfield. USI has a 12-4 all-time series lead over the University of Illinois Springfield, after defeating the Prairie Stars twice last season, winning 100-72 at the Physical Activities Center and 93-83 in Springfield, Illinois.  

Illinois Springfield in 2019-20. Illinois Springfield is 14-10 overall, 7-9 in the GLVC after defeating Maryville, 82-79, Saturday.

USI vs. Lewis. The Eagles also hold a 47-27 all-time series lead versus the Flyers of Lewis after winning one of three meetings in 2018-19. Lewis took the two regular season meetings, winning in Romeoville, Illinois, 79-69, and at the PAC, 83-73, while USI won in the final seconds of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional semifinals, 62-61. USI also held a 30-11 advantage in games at the old PAC.

Lewis in 2019-20. Lewis is 13-11 overall and 8-8 in the GLVC after defeating Missouri University of Science & Technology, 67-63, Saturday afternoon in Romeoville. The Flyers host McKendree University Thursday before coming down to Screaming Eagles Arena Saturday.
