DeHart notches career-high as Eagles earn wire-to-wire win

EVANSVILLE, Ind—Senior guard Emma DeHart (Indianapolis, Indiana) scored a career-high 23 points as University of Southern Indiana Women's Basketball earned a wire-to-wire 70-55 victory over visiting Rockhurst University in its season-opener Friday afternoon at Screaming Eagles Arena.

Sophomore forward Hannah Haithcock (Washington Courthouse, Ohio) had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Addy Blackwell (Bloomington, Indiana) finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists as the Screaming Eagles jumped out to a 22-12 lead at the end of one period.

USI (1-0, 1-0 GLVC), which out-rebounded the Hawks, 51-43, never let its lead dip below five points and a 13-2 run, which spanned the final moments of the third quarter and the first four-and-a-half minutes of the fourth, ensured the Eagles their fifth season-opening victory in the last six years.

DeHart scored five points in the 13-2 run, which gave the Eagles their largest lead (65-49) of the game. USI went 5-of-12 (.417) from the field during the game-clinching run and held the Hawks to just 1-of-11 shooting during that time frame.

Senior guard Ashley Hunter (Flossmoor, Illinois) added eight points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks for the Eagles, who shot 60.0 percent (6-10) from the field in the opening period before finishing the game 19-of-56 (.339).

Rockhurst (0-1, 0-1 GLVC), which shot 26.1 percent (18-69) from the field, was led by senior guard Daly Sullivan's 13 points and junior forward Monika Faerber's 13 rebounds.

USI returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when it hosts William Jewell College at Screaming Eagles Arena. The Cardinals (0-0, 0-0 GLVC) were visiting the University of Indianapolis Friday evening.
