EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis opened the 2019-20 season with the Eastern Illinois University Panther Invite this past weekend. The Screaming Eagles came away with 26 wins during the two-day event, with freshmen
Preston Cameron (Floyd Knobs, Indiana) and
Lucas Sakamaki (Floyd Knobs, Indiana) coming away championships in their respective singles flights.
Sophomore
Marvin Kromer (Dogern, Germany) and junior
Kooper Falkenstein (Jeffersonville, Indiana) posted a perfect mark in doubles action, while Cameron and junior
Spencer Blandford (Louisville, Kentucky), both of whom were teammates at Saint Xavier High School, reached the finals in the Flight 1 Doubles Bracket.
Skamaki also reached the finals in the Flight 2 Doubles Bracket, pairing with sophomore
Martin Linares (Buenos Aires, Argentina) for a 2-1 record.
Overall USI's two newcomers combined for 12 wins to aid USI's efforts on the weekend.
The Eagles return to action Saturday when they compete at the ITA Midwest Region Championships in Allendale, Michigan.
