Eagles blow by Cardinals, 10-2

USI outscores WJC, 39-11 in the series
 
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Baseball used a six-run fourth to blow by William Jewell College, 10-2, Saturday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. The Screaming Eagles move their record to 15-8 overall and 8-3 in the GLVC, while the Cardinals go to 9-15-1, 3-8 GLVC.   
 
The Eagles erased a 2-0 deficit with the six-run fourth inning on three hits, taking advantage of pair of walks and a pair hit batters in the frame. USI junior third baseman Kobe Stephens (Dale, Indiana) had the big hit in the rally with two-run single through the left side.
 
The Cardinals had built the early two lead over the Eagles with a single tally in the second and third frames.
 
USI extended the margin to 9-2 in the top of the seventh when it put a three-spot on the scoreboard. Junior catcher Wyatt Daly (Newburgh, Indiana) capped off the three-run rally with a two-run single to seal the victory for the Eagles.
 
The Eagles would finish off the scoring in the eighth when senior first baseman Nathan Kuester (Rockport, Indiana) smacked an RBI-single for the 10-2 final.
 
At the plate in the victory, Daly finished with a team-high three RBIs, while senior second baseman Jacob Fleming (Evansville, Indiana) and Stephens followed with two RBIs each. Stephens also had a team-best three hits in four at-bats.
 
USI senior right-hander Austin Gossmann (Avon, Indiana) went the distance for the Eagles to get his team-best fourth win of the season. Gossman (4-0) allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk in addition to striking out two in eight innings of work.
 
Senior right-hander Dalton Lewis (Parker, Colorado) pitched the ninth for the Eagles, loading the bases on a pair of hits and a hit batter, before starting a one-two-three double-play to end the game.   
 
Up Next for the Eagles:
The Eagles hits the road Tuesday when they visits Bellarmine for a single game at 1 p.m. (CDT) in Louisville, Kentucky. USI and Bellarmine split a doubleheader last week with the Eagles falling, 13-4, in the opener and winning, 11-6, in the nightcap.
 
The all-time series leans toward USI with the Eagles leading, 82-75
