EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team hung a 4-3 home win against the Hillsdale Chargers at the Evansville Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
DOUBLES
USI (4-0, 0-0 GLVC) took a fall at number one doubles before bouncing back with the duo of sophomore
Kooper Falkenstein (Jeffersonville, Indiana) and sophomore
Spencer Blandford (Louisville, Kentucky) who defeated their opponent 6-3 at number three doubles.
The Eagles and Chargers (5-1, 0-0 GMAC) were knotted up at 1-1 heading into the final match of doubles in the number two spot. Freshman
Martin Linares (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and freshman
Parker Collignon (Owensboro, Kentucky) came back from a 5-2 deficit to defeat their match-up and win the doubles point for USI 7-5.
SINGLES
Senior
Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) and Blandford picked up two points for the Eagles in number one and four singles over their opponents by scores of 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) and 6-4, 4-6, and yet another tie-breaking victory 7-6 (7-4), respectively. Linares won after his opponent retired.
WHO'S NEXT?
USI's match against Wayne State on February 16 is cancelled making their home stand on February 23 at 4 p.m. against the UAH Chargers their next challenge.
