BOLIVAR, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team won its third match in a row by defeating Southwest Baptist University, 3-1, Friday afternoon in Bolivar, Missouri. The Eagles see their record go to 3-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the GLVC, while Southwest Baptist goes to 1-7-0, 1-5-0 GLVC.
USI got off on the right foot when senior midfielder
Morgan Kelly (Shelbyville, Kentucky) scored his first goals of the season at 15:34. Kelly gave USI the 1-0 lead off a pass from senior forward
Eric Ramirez (Vincennes, Indiana). The Bearcats evened the score at 39:14 before both teams went into the intermission tied, 1-1.
The Eagles put the match into the win column with a pair second half goals. USI senior midfielder
Sean Rickey (Columbia, Illinois) recorded the eventual game-winning goal by finding the back of the net after scrum in front of the Southwest Baptist goal following a corner kick to make it 2-1 at 50:32. The goal was the third of the year for the senior.
USI sealed the victory at 68:27 on the first goal of the year by freshman forward
Zach Barton (St. Louis, Missouri). Barton made a nifty move through the Bearcat defense after sophomore defender
Luke Lindsay (Plymouth, Minnesota) made a long clearing pass out of the Eagles' defensive end.
Between the posts, junior goalkeeper
Justin Faas (Carmel, Indiana) posted his third-straight win. Faas earned the win after allowing his first goal in three matches, making eight saves after facing 18 total shots.
The Eagles reach the halfway mark of the four-match road swing Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when they visit the Panthers of Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Drury, who is 5-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the conference, are slated to host McKendree University this evening in Springfield.
Drury holds an 11-2-3 advantage in the all-time series, but USI has swept the Panthers the last two seasons, 3-2 in 2017 and 2-1 in 2018, at Strassweg Field.
