Volleyball on the road again this weekend; faces UIndy, Lewis

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - University of Southern Indiana Volleyball continues into the Great Lakes Valley Conference season this weekend with a two-match road trip.

The Screaming Eagles will travel to the University of Indianapolis on Friday, then to Romeoville, Ill. for a bout with No. 5 Lewis University.

Notable Eagles
  • Junior Elexis Coleman (Joliet, Illinois) and freshman Sidney Hegg (Menasha, Wisconsin) sit third (.346) and fourth (.343) in the GLVC respectively in hitting percentage
  • Senior Haley Limper (Springfield, Illinois) and Erika Peoples (Bloomington, Illinois) are second and fifth in the GLVC in service aces
  • Sophomore Casey Cepicky (St. Louis, Missouri) leads USI with 262 assists and has posted double-doubles against Daemen College (Aug. 31) and Notre Dame College (Sept. 1)
  • Coleman and Hegg are also tied for the Eagles-lead in blocks this season with 30 each...Litteken follows closely with 25

The Weekend Ahead

at UIndy (8-3, 3-0 GLVC); Friday, 7pm:
 
  • The Eagles and Greyhounds split their two matches in 2017, went at least four sets in each, with the visitor claiming victory in each instance
  • UIndy has faced two 2017 NCAA tournament qualifiers this season and defeated No. 25 Colorado School of Mines on Sept. 1
  • Katie Furlong leads the GLVC in kills so far this season (200) and boasts a 4.65 per set average
  • Alyssa Spears paces the conference in assists (518) with a 12.05 average...Spears posted 24 assists in the Oct. 21 match of last year
  • Olivia Martin sits second in the GLVC in digs (266) on 6.82 per set...Martin posted 46 digs between two matches against USI last season.

at Lewis (9-2, 3-0 GLVC); Saturday, 3pm:
 
  • The Flyers were ranked fifth in NCAA II in the most recent AVCA poll and are 2-1 this season against 2017 national qualifiers, posting victories against Indiana University (PA) and West Florida University
  • Lewis features two of the top five in aces in the GLVC in 2018: Morgan Goodman and Alexandra Pruess...Pruess also leads the Flyers with 3.03 kills per set this season
  • The assists will come from Abby Becker, who sits seventh in the GLVC with 381 (9.77 per set)
  • USI will have to avoid Caroline Stefanon at the net to find kills on Saturday...Stefanon leads Lewis with 54 blocks (1.42 per set)

In The Distance

The Eagles return to the Physical Activities Center on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. for their GLVC home-opener against Truman State University. USI hosts Quincy University the following afternoon at 3 p.m.
