OZARK, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team was eliminated from the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament after suffering an 8-2 loss to the University of Indianapolis Sunday morning in the GLVC Tournament at U.S. Baseball Field in Ozark, Missouri. USI watched its record go to 32-21 overall, while UIndy advances to the GLVC title game with a 31-22 mark.
The Screaming Eagles will have to wait until this evening to see if their post-season run will continue with an at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Midwest Region bracket and pairing will be announced on NCAA.com com at 9 p.m. (CDT).
USI jumped out in front in the third on an RBI-double by senior pitcher/designated hitter
Nick Gobert (Jasper, Indiana), scoring freshman centerfielder
Bryce Krizan (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) to make the score 1-0. Senior first baseman
Drake McNamara (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) made the score 2-0 with an RBI-single in the fifth, also scoring Krizan, who ended the game with a team-high three hits.
The sixth inning forward belonged to the Greyhounds as they posted a four-spot in the sixth and seventh innings to take an 8-2 lead.
On the mound, Gobert (4-3) took the loss for the Eagles. The senior right-hander, who shutout the Greyhounds until the sixth on one hit, allowed four runs on four hits and two walks through five-plus innings of work.
