Eagles hit the road to restart GLVC play

USI to visit Maryville, UMSL
 
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Basketball restarts 2018-19 Great Lakes Valley Conference action when it hits the road to visit Maryville University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis in St. Louis this week. The Screaming Eagles (8-3, 0-1 GLVC) are slated to play Maryville University (5-6, 0-2 GLVC) Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and the University of Missouri-St. Louis (10-2, 1-1 GLVC) Saturday at 3 p.m.

USI Men's Basketball Week 9 Quick Notes:
USI splits final weekend of 2018.  USI recorded a split during the final weekend of the 2018 calendar, losing a battle with King University, 86-80, and rebounding to post a win over Ohio Valley University, 83-74. Senior guard Alex Stein led the USI offensive attack with 23.0 points per game, while sophomore forward Emmanuel Little followed with 19.5 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per contest. Junior guard/forward Kobe Caldwell rounded out USI's double-digit scorers with 15.0 points per contest.

Reaching season highs this week. Sophomore forward Emmanuel Little, who has posted double-doubles in three of the last four contests, scored a season-high 24 points in the loss to King. Senior guard Alex Stein dished a season-high five assists in the win over Ohio Valley, while senior forward Jacob Norman tied a season-high with six points and four assists in the victory.  

Stein in the top three. Senior guard Alex Stein is in the Eagles' top-three all-time for scoring with 1,721 points. Stein follows USI's all-time leading scorers Stephen Jackson (2,216; 1983-87) and Chris Bowles (2,169; 1990-94).

USI finishes 2018-19 non-conference USI finished the non-conference portion of the 2018-19 campaign with an 8-2 mark. The Eagles are 226-30 (.883) against non-GLVC teams during the last 25 seasons. Of the 30 losses, two have come in the NCAA Division II Tournament Finals and four in the NCAA II Midwest Regional. USI also has won 50-straight non-conference games at the PAC since losing to Northwest Missouri State University in 2007-08.   

USI vs. Maryville. USI leads the all-time series with Maryville, 10-2, since the series started 2008-09 and the Saints joining the GLVC in 2009-10. The Eagles, who are 7-1 versus the Saints in league play, won the only meeting last season, 61-59 at the PAC. Senior guard Alex Stein led the Eagles with 22 points, while forward Julius Rajala dropped in 11 points.  

Maryville in 2018-19. The Saints are 5-6 overall, 0-2 GLVC, after losing four of their last five games. Maryville started the year with three-straight wins.

USI vs. Missouri-St. Louis. USI leads the all-time series 37-11 versus UMSL, 31-2 in GLVC action. The Eagles, who are 15-7 versus the Triton all-time on the road, won their 15th-straight over UMSL in the only meeting in overtime last year, 84-73. Senior guard Alex Stein led USI with 23 points, while senior guard Nate Hansen followed with 21 points in the victory. Forward DayJar Dickson also had a double-double with 15 points and 21 rebounds.

UMSL in 2018-19. The Tritons are 10-2 in 2018-19, 1-1 in the GLVC. UMSL, which hosts Bellarmine University on Thursday before welcoming USI, has won three-straight and seven of its last eight games in November and December.
