QUINCY, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team stumbled to Quincy University in overtime, 2-1, Friday evening in Quincy, Illinois. USI goes to 5-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 GLVC, while Quincy watched its record go to 6-4-1, 4-2-1 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles picked up the first half lead, 1-0, at the 32:10 mark. USI junior forward
Emilie Blomenkamp (Smithton, Illinois) knocked in her fourth goal of the year off an assist by freshman midfielder
Lyndsee Monac (New Brighton, Pennsylvania). The Eagles would hold onto the 1-0 lead through the intermission.
In the second half, Quincy would get the momentum and knot the score, 1-1, with a tally at 64:07. The teams would battle back-and-forth for the next 25 minutes as regulation ended with a tied score. The Hawks had the majority of chances in the second half, leading in shots, 12-4.
In overtime, Quincy had the only two shots of the period and scored on its second attempt with 2:02 left in overtime.
The Eagles conclude the weekend with a visit to the University of Indianapolis Sunday for an 11 a.m. (CDT) contest. UIndy saw its record go to 6-4-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the GLVC after stumbling to Maryville University, 2-1, this afternoon in St. Louis, Missouri.
UIndy leads USI all-time, 12-10-1, since the series began in 1997. The Greyhounds and the Eagles also split the last five matches with two wins and two losses each and one tie.
