QUINCY, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout of Quincy University, 2-0, Friday evening in Quincy, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles see their record go to 8-1-1 overall and 6-0-1 GLVC, while the Hawks go to 4-6-1, 3-3-1 GLVC.
USI grabbed a lead during the first 45 minutes when junior forward
Eric Ramirez (Vincennes, Indiana) looped the ball over the Hawks' defense for the 1-0 lead at 27:20. Ramirez was assisted on his fourth goal of the year by junior midfielder
Adam Becker (Columbia, Illinois). The Eagles held onto the 1-0 lead through the intermission.
In the second half, the USI defense withstood numerous runs by the Quincy offense before counter-attacking at 73:06. USI junior forward
Sean Rickey (Columbia, Illinois) scored from 15 yards after a give-and-go with Ramirez for the 2-0 lead. The goal was Rickey's team-best ninth of the season.
Eagles' sophomore goalkeeper
Justin Faas (Carmel, Indiana) made the two goals stand up in posting his eighth win of the season. Faas notched his fifth shutout of the season by making five saves after facing 14 total shots.
USI concludes a three-match road swing Sunday when it visits the University of Indianapolis for a 1:30 p.m. (CDT) match. UIndy watched its record go to 8-2-1, 4-2-1 GLVC after falling Maryville University, 3-2, today in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Eagles lead the Greyhounds in the all-time series, 21-15-0, since the creation of the USI men's soccer program in 1979. UIndy has had the upper hand the last five matches, going 4-0-1, and sweeping last year's meetings, 2-1 in overtime during the regular season and 1-0 in the GLVC Tournament.
