Eagles’ post-season hopes hang on homestand

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team returns to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field in search of a berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament when it hosts a three-match homestand. The three-match homestand, which start Friday at 7:30 p.m. versus Drury University (7-5-1, 6-4-1 GLVC), is the longest of the season for the Screaming Eagles.

In addition to the USI-Drury match-up, the Eagles will host Missouri University of Science & Technology (6-5-2, 5-5-1 GLVC) Sunday at noon for Senior Day and finish the regular season by welcoming McKendree University (2-11-0, 0-11-0 GLVC) October 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Week 8 Eagle Notes:
Eagles can get GLVC Tournament berth at home: USI (7-6-0, 5-6-0 GLVC) needs a successful homestand to earn a berth in the GLVC Tournament. The Eagles enters the week 10th in the league, percentage points behind Missouri S&T and the University of Missouri-St. Louis, who are tied for eighth at 5-5-1 and 5-5-2, respectively, and one game behind Bellarmine University and Drury, who are tied for sixth at 6-4-1. The top eight teams qualify for the conference tournament that is slated to start October 29.

USI splits last road trip of the regular season: USI split it final road trip of the 2017 regular season, defeating William Jewell College, 3-1, before losing to fourth-ranked Rockhurst University, 1-0.

USI posted longest winning streak of 2017: The Eagles extended their longest winning streak of the season to four matches with the win over William Jewell.

USI's 2017 Offensive Leaders: Leading the USI offense this season is sophomore midfielder Sean Rickey (Columbia, Illinois) and sophomore forward Eric Ramirez (Vincennes, Indiana) with 11 points on five goals and one assist each. Ramirez has scored in two of the last three USI outings, including a pair of first half goals in the win over William Jewell.

USI trails all-time series with Drury: USI trails the all-time series with Drury, 11-1-2, after tying the Panthers on the road last year, 1-1. The only time the Eagles defeated the Panthers was at Strassweg Field in 2010.

USI hopes to get on track versus Missouri S&T: The Eagles are behind in the all-time series with the Miners, 15-9-3, after the squads tied last year in Rolla, Missouri. USI is looking for its first win over the Miners since 2007 before they changed their institutional name from the University of Missouri-Rolla to Missouri S&T. The Miners visit McKendree Friday night on their way to Evansville for Sunday's showdown with the Eagles on Senior Day.

USI on top in the all-time series with McKendree. USI leads the all-time series with McKendree, 5-4-2, after the 0-0 tie last season in Lebanon, Illinois. The Eagles are looking to post their first win over the Bearcats since 2013 when they won in overtime on the road. McKendree hosts Missouri S&T and Maryville University prior to its visit to USI on October 25.

Santoro begins his ninth year: USI Head Coach Mat Santoro has a 71-69-16 overall record at the helm of the Eagles since 2009.
