Lofland makes career-high 8 saves
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 1-0, Friday evening at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 4-4-0, 1-4-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference, while UW-Parkside goes to 4-2-1, 4-1-0 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles and the Rangers battled through a scoreless first half with UW-Parkside posting most of the chances and leading in shots, 12-2. USI senior goalkeeper
Courtney Lofland (Indianapolis, Indiana) kept the Eagles deadlocked with the Rangers by tying a career-high with six first-half saves in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, the Rangers continued to pressure the Eagles' defense and got the game-winning goal at 65:36. Lofland, who suffered her first loss of the year in goal for the Eagles, posted two stops in the second half and finished the match with a career-best eight saves.
Overall, UW-Parkside outshot USI, 20-4, while both team had four corner kicks each.
USI concludes the GLVC home weekend Sunday at noon when it hosts Lewis University. Lewis saw its record go to 4-3-1 overall, 2-2-1 GLVC, after falling in overtime at Bellarmine University this evening, 2-1.
The Eagles look to get back on track versus the Flyers Sunday after losing a 1-0 decision last fall in Romeoville, Illinois. USI, which leads the all-series, 13-5-2, had posted a 9-0-1 record versus Lewis since 2005 before losing last year's match.
