Lindsey Stose (Elkhart, Indiana) combined for 15 kills and a .482 attacking percentage as the Screaming Eagles' volleyball team rolled to a 25-16, 25-14, 25-14 victory over Brevard College in its 2016 season-opener Friday afternoon.
Whitfield racked up seven kills, four aces, two blocks, and a .700 attacking percentage as USI won its fourth straight season-opener.
Stose tallied five of her team-best eight kills in the opening frame as USI used a 10-1 run to secure the nine-point win.
USI (1-0) rallied from an early deficit in set two; then used a 15-4 burst to end the second frame and take a two-set advantage in the match.
The Eagles limited the Tornados to a negative .107 attacking percentage in the third frame. USI used a 12-2 push to end the set and secure the three-set sweep.
Senior setter
Quin Shoultz (Columbus, Indiana) finished with a match-high 30 assists as she directed the Eagles' offense to a .311 attacking percentage. Junior libero
Shannon Farrell (Munster, Indiana) added a match-high 14 digs as USI held the Tornados' attack to a .112 clip.
USI returns to action today at 6 p.m. as it takes on host Flagler College in its second match of the Flagler Invitational.
