EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Women's Basketball fell victim to an aerial assault Thursday evening as No. 19 Quincy University drained 14 three-pointers and took advantage of 21 USI turnovers to hand the Screaming Eagles a 78-65 Great Lakes Valley Conference setback at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (10-3, 3-2 GLVC) fought back from a late 22-point deficit, using a 10-0 fourth quarter run to get to within 11 points (71-60) with less than four minutes to play in the game; but back-to-back three pointers by junior guard Nikia Edom quelled the Eagles' surge and ensured the victory for the visiting Lady Hawks.
Quincy (14-1, 5-1 GLVC), which went 6-of-11 from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes, led 44-33 at the intermission after using an 8-1 run to close the half. The Hawks scored five straight points in the first 20 seconds of the third quarter to extend their advantage to 16.
USI connected on 8-of-13 from the floor in the third period, but seven turnovers coupled with a 5-of-6 effort from three-point range by the Hawks put USI in a 68-46 hole with two minutes to play in the quarter.

Hannah Wascher (Rantoul, Illinois) in the final minute of the third quarter cut Quincy's lead to 18 heading into the fourth period, but another Quincy three-pointer early in the final frame extended the Hawks' advantage to 71-50.

Kacy Eshweiler (St. Charles, Missouri) combined for five straight points to get the Eagles to within 16 with eight minutes to play; then, following a lengthy scoring drought by both teams, freshman forward/center
Mikayla Rowan (Brazil, Indiana) scored five straight points as USI closed Quincy's lead to 71-60.
Quincy's three-point effort, however, proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome as the Hawks sank 14-of-23 (.609) shots from long range, including 8-of-12 (.667) in the second half, and 12-of-15 (.800) from the charity stripe.
USI overcame an early 5-0 deficit to take a brief one-point lead; but 5-0 Quincy run that started with a three-pointer by Edom staked Quincy 14-9 advantage midway through the opening period. Quincy went 3-of-6 from three-point range in the first quarter and turned four USI turnovers into seven points to stretch its advantage to 26-18 heading into the second period.
Wascher paced USI with a season-high 24 points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds. She went 11-of-11 from the field, becoming the second player in program history to record a perfect shooting percentage with at least 10 attempts—Jessica Stuckman went 12-of-12 against the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2002.
Rowan added a career-high 15 points to aid the Eagles, who shot 55.1 percent from the field on 27-of-49 shooting. USI held the Hawks to just 12-of-32 (.375) inside the arc.
Edom and senior guard Maggie Cunningham each went 5-of-7 from three-point range to finish with 15 and 18 points, respectively, while senior forward Kara Gerbus sank a couple three-pointers to finish with 18 points.
The Eagles return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Truman State University at the PAC. The Bulldogs (10-5, 4-2 GLVC) suffered a 92-74 setback to No. 17 Bellarmine University Thursday in Louisville, Kentucky.
