USI hits the road to start 2015

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team begins the 2015 regular-season campaign with a three-match road swing, starting with a pair of Midwest Region contests at the University of Findlay. The Screaming Eagles are slated to play Northwood University Friday at 3:30 p.m. (CDT) in a neutral site match, while concluding play in the first weekend of action against the host, Findlay, Sunday at 11 a.m. (CDT).
 
Following the opening weekend of non-conference action, the Eagles open Great Lakes Valley Conference action on the road at the University of Illinois Springfield September 11 in Springfield, Illinois. USI starts its 2015 home schedule September 13 when McKendree University comes to Strassweg Field for a noon contest.
 
Week 1 Eagle Notes:
 
Winning Ways: The Eagles have posted winning records five of the last six seasons and appeared in four of the last six GLVC Tournaments.
 
On the road in 2014. USI hopes to improve upon its road record over 2014. The Eagles were 2-3-1 on the road last fall, losing two of the games by one goal. USI lost its only neutral site game in the 2014 season opener.
 
Leading scorers return 2015. The Eagles return five of the top seven scorers from 2014, led by sophomore forward Haley Rheinlander (Evansville, Indiana). Rheinlander had six points on three goals, including game-winning tally against William Jewell College. Junior defender Gabriella Korte (St. Louis, Missouri) is second among the returning scorers with five points on a goal and three assists.
 
Engelbrecht begins her 13th year. USI Head Coach Kristy Engelbrecht has an 89-109-17 overall record at USI, but is 52-46-5 in her last six seasons. .
 
USI and Northwood meet for the first time in women's soccer. The Eagles and the Timberwolves meet for the first time in the history of the programs Friday in Findlay.
 
USI leads Findlay 2-0-1. USI leads the all-time series with Findlay, 2-0-1, winning the last meeting in 2006, 3-1, at Strassweg Field. The Eagles won the first meeting with the Oilers, 1-0, at Strassweg Field in 2004, but battled to a 2-2 draw at Findlay in 2005.
 
Eagles vs. the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Northwood and Findlay are members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. USI has an all-time mark of 10-13-2 against members of the GLIAC.
