ST. LOUIS—The No. 17 University of Southern Indiana softball team could not recover from a slippery Saturday that saw No. 1 University of Missouri-St. Louis take advantage of six walks and a hit-by-pitch to plate three runners before a seven-hour rain delay eventually suspended the game to Sunday.
Missouri-St. Louis (46-6) took a 3-0 lead into the third inning Sunday and never let the Screaming Eagles back into the contest as the Tritons earned a 4-0 win to advance to the championship game Sunday night.
Senior pitcher
Brooke Harmening (Whiteland, Indiana) settled down Sunday, allowing just one run off two walks and a pair of hits in the final five innings, but the damage was done Saturday despite the Tritons recording just one hit in the first two innings.
Harmening (22-4) was charged with the setback despite giving up just three hits.
USI (38-10) faces the winner of the Grand Valley State University-Wayne State University game in an elimination contest Sunday at 3 p.m.
