EVANSVILLE, Ind.----The 15th-ranked University of Southern Indiana softball team improved to 4-0 on the week following a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader sweep of visiting Quincy University on Senior Day, Saturday at the USI Softball Field.
The Screaming Eagles honored seniors
MacKenzi Dorsam (Dubois, Indiana) and
Brooke Harmening (Whiteland, Indiana), both of whom combined for five runs, seven hits, 10 RBI, and four homeruns in USI's dominating 7-1 and 8-0, six-inning sweep of the Hawks.
Junior
Toni Braun (Evanston, Indiana) got the Eagles' scoring frenzy going with an RBI-single in the opening frame of game one. The Hawks, however, rallied back with a leadoff homerun to knot the score in the second inning, but USI couldn't stay quiet for long, as Dorsam tallied a two-run homer for a 3-1 lead.
Following a leadoff walk by sophomore
Grace Clark (Indianapolis, Indiana) in the fifth, Harmening sent the ball flying over the fence for USI's second two-run homer and a 5-1 lead.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Dorsam sealed USI's 7-1 win sending sophomore
Lexi Reese (Lebanon, Indiana) and freshman
Olivia Clark-Kittleson home for the winning runs.
Redshirt-freshman
Sadie Foster (Plainfield, Indiana) registered her first career-RBI in game two, off a single up the middle to give USI a 1-0 advantage, and came back in the fifth to tally another two RBI.
Dorsam took control of the plate with two homeruns for a total of four RBI, extending the Eagles' lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Up 7-0 following Foster's double-run single, USI worked to tally the needed game ending run in the sixth inning, which eventually came from a bases-loaded RBI-single by sophomore
Alisha Ludwig (Terre Haute, Indiana).
It was another impressive day for the USI pitching staff, as Harmening and junior
Sarah Owens (Indianapolis, Indiana) each picked up wins, improving to 19-1 and 11-3 on the season, respectively.
Harmening opened the day with five strikeouts, no walks, and six hits, while Owens continued the streak with another five strikeouts, while limiting the Hawks to just two hits in the six innings played.
The Eagles play their final regular-season doubleheader Wednesday against regional opponent Oakland City University with the first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
