HOUGHTON, Mich.—University of Southern Indiana women's basketball senior forward/center
Anna Hackert (Evansville, Indiana) has been named to the Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Midwest Region first team in a vote by the region's sports information directors.
Hackert, who advances to the national ballot for All-America consideration, leads the Screaming Eagles with 15.5 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.
A three-time first-team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection, Hackert set single-season school records for rebounds (346) and double-doubles (20) this season. She is the program's career-record holder for rebounds (996) and double-doubles (45) and ranks third all-time in scoring (1,585).
Hackert, who needs 20 points to become the fourth player in program history to reach the 500-point plateau in a single-season, has reached double-figures in the scoring column in 29 of USI's 31 games this season. She had a season-high 35 points to go with 16 rebounds in USI's come-from-behind win over the University of Indianapolis at the Physical Activities Center last month.
Earlier this season, Hackert set the program's single-game record with 24 rebounds in USI's win over Salem International University. She has recorded at least 10 rebounds in 22 games this year.
An honorable-mention All-American by the WBCA and the Women's Division II Bulletin, Hackert is garnering All-Midwest Region honors for the third straight season. She earned second-team accolades as a sophomore and a junior.
Hackert, who was named to the GLVC All-Tournament team last weekend, has earned GLVC Player of the Week accolades five times this season and eight times in her career. Her efforts have helped the Eagles to a 25-6 overall record and a 15-3 mark in GLVC play.
USI, which advanced to the GLVC Tournament title game last weekend, begins the NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament Friday at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) when it takes on Ashland University in the quarterfinals in Houghton, Michigan. USI enters the regional as the No. 4 seed, while Ashland earned the No. 5 seed.
All of USI's games this weekend can be listened to on WPSR 90.7 FM, while live stats, audio, and video can be accessed at gousieagles.com.
