Hackert repeats as GLVC Player of Week

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana senior forward/center Anna Hackert (Evansville, Indiana) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week and fourth time this season. The announcement came from the league office Monday afternoon.

Hackert, who broke the school's career record with her 41st career double-double Saturday, averaged 17.0 points on 61.5 percent shooting from the field and 9.5 rebounds per game as the Screaming Eagles posted wins over GLVC West Division foes Quincy University and Truman State University.

She began the week by pouring in a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds in USI's 76-55 victory over Quincy. She went 9-of-13 from the floor (.692) as USI earned its third straight win and built a two-game lead in the race for a first-round bye in the GLVC Championship Tournament.

On Saturday, Hackert returned to the court to earn her school-record tying 16th double-double of the year in USI's 65-53 win over Truman State. Hackert, who went 7-of-13 from the field (.538) to finish with 16 points, corralled five of her game-high 10 rebounds in the final five minutes of the contest.

For the season, Hackert leads USI with 15.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. With 913 career rebounds, Hackert is closing in on USI's all-time mark of 961, held by USI and GLVC Hall of Famer LeAnn Freeland.

This week's honor marks the seventh time in Hackert's career that she has garnered GLVC Player of the Week accolades.

USI returns to action Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when it visits the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Eagles also visit Maryville University Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Louis.

Both games can be listened to on WPSR 90.7 FM, while live stats, audio, and video can be accessed at gousieagles.com.

Missouri-St. Louis (11-10, 7-6 GLVC), which saw a three-game winning streak end with its 54-53 setback to Saint Joseph's College Saturday in Rensselaer, Indiana, is led by senior guard Alexis Lawrence and junior forward Kelly Kunkel. Lawrence is averaging a team-best 13.9 points per outing, while Kunkel is chipping in a team-high 13.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in conference play.

USI defeated the Tritons, 69-57, a year ago at the PAC, but lost to Maryville, 89-79.

The Saints (13-9, 7-6 GLVC), who have won five of their last eight games, including Saturday's 89-75 win over Indianapolis, are led by senior guard Shelby Miller, who torched the Eagles for 35 points last year. Miller is averaging 15.0 points per contest, including 17.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in conference play.
