EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's and women's cross country teams were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association for their efforts in the classroom this past season as six runners were named USTFCCCA All-Academic.
USI's women, who were recognized as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team after compiling a 3.48 GPA in the fall, had four runners earn USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades.
Senior
Julia Kohnen (Florissant, Missouri), junior
Jamie Adkins (Owensboro, Kentucky), sophomore
Cathryn Peter (Tell City, Indiana), and freshman
Emily Roberts (Fredericktown, Ohio) were among 262 women to earn All-Academic honors.
Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater and must have finished among the top 30 percent of total eligible runners at his or her regional championship (total Division II teams in the region multiplied by seven runners per team) or in the top half of the field at the NCAA II Championships.
Kohnen earned All-America honors after finishing 11th at the NCAA II National Championships. She was fifth at the NCAA II Midwest Region Championships.
Roberts was 27th at the NCAA II Midwest Region Championships, while Adkins and Peter finished 50th and 51st, respectively, at the regional meet.
USI's women were among 128 programs to earn All-Academic Team honors, which go to programs that have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or greater and scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet.
Senior
Tyler Pence (Springfield, Illinois) and junior
Johnnie Guy (Palmyra, Indiana) were among 208 men's runners to be recognized with All-Academic honors.
Pence was the NCAA II Midwest Region Runner of the Year after finishing first at the regional meet. He went on to place seventh at the NCAA II National Championships, earning All-America honors in the process.
Guy, the GLVC Runner of the Year, was named the GLVC Scholar Athlete of the Year on Tuesday after winning the GLVC title for the second straight season. He finished fifth at the regional meet and eighth at the national championships, earning All-Region and All-America awards.
Both programs captured GLVC titles in 2014, while the men were third at the regional meet and seventh at nationals. USI's men have won 10 straight GLVC championships, while the women have won four straight conference titles.
