Eagles fall to Miners

ROLLA, Mo.—University of Southern Indiana Volleyball dropped a road match at the Missouri University of Science and Technology 17-25, 25-22, 18-25, 21-25, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match Saturday afternoon in Rolla, Missouri.

USI (17-9, 6-7 GLVC) led 5-2 early on in the first set before Missouri S&T (19-8, 10-3 GLVC) manufactured a 16-3 to jump ahead 18-8. The Miners continued their solid play in the latter stages of the first set en route to a 25-17 victory.

The Screaming Eagles responded with a 25-22 victory in the second set which evened the match. With each run the Miners attempted, USI stifled the S&T surge.

After the intermission, the Eagles and Miners traded blows, culminating in a tie at 15-15. Missouri S&T powered through the tie with a 7-0 run on the way to the Miners' 25-18 third set victory.

In the fourth and final set, USI and the Miners traded runs back and forth in a hotly contested set. Late in the set, the Miners pulled away with a 3-1 run to secure the 25-21 win in set four and the match victory.

The Eagles hit just .138 for the match as a team, but were led by senior Erica Oberbroeckling's 13 kills and a.324 hitting percentage.

USI returns to the PAC for a string of five-straight home matches to conclude the regular season. The home-stand begins with a Friday night contest against Maryville University at 7 p.m. followed by a Saturday afternoon match against the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 3 p.m.

While USI has struggled on the road, the Eagles are 8-1 this season at the Physical Activities Center and 6-0 on a neutral court. The Eagles play their final five matches of the regular-season at the PAC.
