Postseason hopes fuel Eagles as season wanes

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer hits the road for its final three games of the regular season with the postseason looming. The weekend begins when the Screaming Eagles travel to Maryville University on Friday at 12:30 pm. USI then makes the short trip to the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday at 3:30 pm to end the weekend. The Eagles wrap-up the regular season on the road at Bellarmine University on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm.

USI hosted its final home-stand last weekend and found two crucial victories at Strassweg Field. The Eagles began the weekend with a 2-1 thrilling victory over Truman State University before topping Quincy University 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
  
This weekend, USI takes on the Maryville Saints on Friday in St. Charles, Missouri. The Saints enter the weekend with a 6-7-2 overall mark and a 4-7-2 record in the GLVC.
 
The Eagles then face UMSL on Sunday in St. Louis, Missouri. The Tritons currently sit at 6-6-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the GLVC.
 
USI concludes the regular season on the road at Bellarmine in Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday. The Knights sit second in the GLVC with a record of 10-5 overall and 8-4 in the conference.
 
USI's hopes for a postseason berth are still alive heading into the final three contests. The Eagles currently sit just one game back of the all-important eighth spot in the GLVC.

Week 8 Notes: 
 
Offensive leaders: Senior Josh Weinzapfel regained the goals lead this weekend with the game-winning goal against Truman State to increase his season total to five. Freshman Kasper Bjoro sits in second for the Eagles in goals with four. Sophomore Pedro Castro sits alone with three goals for USI all coming in the last five games. A pair of juniors in Braiden Acton and Brian Fischer, as well as freshman Erick Hasselkus, have chipped in two goals each.

Santoro begins his seventh year. USI Head Coach Mat Santoro has a 49-56-11 overall record at USI.

USI versus the Saints: The Eagles lead the all-time series with Maryville, 6-1-0.
 
USI versus the Tritons: USI trails the all-time series with UMSL, 4-20-2.
 
USI versus the Knights:  USI leads the all-time series with Bellarmine, 22-13-2.
