EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team looks to break a two-game losing streak Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when it travels to Lebanon, Illinois, for a Great Lakes Valley Conference bout with McKendree University. USI also visits the University of Illinois Springfield Saturday at 1 p.m.
Both games can be heard on WPSR 90.7 FM, while live stats, audio, and video can be accessed at gousieagles.com.
USI (14-5, 6-3 GLVC) is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time this season after falling to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 70-52, and No. 1 Lewis University, 83-73, at the Physical Activities Center last week.
Senior forward/center
Mary O'Keefe (Edwardsville, Illinois) had a game-high 13 points in USI's loss to UW-Parkside, while senior forward/center
Anna Hackert (Evansville, Indiana) had a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds in USI's setback to Lewis.
Hackert's effort versus the Flyers was her 14th double-double of the year, a mark that is tied for first in the GLVC and fourth in the nation. She needs just one double-double to match LeAnn Freeland's career mark of 40 and two double-doubles to tie Africa Sherrod's single-season mark of 16 (2002-03).
On the year, Hackert leads the Eagles with 15.2 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, while O'Keefe and sophomore guard
Tanner Marcum (New Albany, Indiana) are chipping in 10.6 and 10.5 points per contest, respectively. Marcum had 18 points in the loss to Lewis.
McKendree (2-15, 1-8 GLVC) is led by senior guard Caty Ponce, a high school teammate of O'Keefe. Ponce, who is 18th in the GLVC in scoring, leads three Bearcats that are averaging in double figures with 12.4 points per appearance.
The Bearcats have lost two straight and nine of their last 10 games.
Illinois Springfield (5-12, 1-8 GLVC) has lost five straight games and nine of its last 10 since beginning the year with a 4-3 record. Junior guard Jameeshia Armstrong and freshman guard Shelbi Patterson are each averaging 8.9 points per outing to lead the Prairie Stars.
