EVANSVILLE, Ind.---The University of Southern of Southern Indiana volleyball team put up a fight, but eventually came up short, as it fell in straight-sets to 23
rd-ranked University of West Florida in the final match of the 2014 Dunn Hospitality Invitational Saturday evening.

The Screaming Eagles attacking game was led by senior
Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, Wisconsin) with 10 kills, while also adding seven digs and three blocks. Junior middle blocker
Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois) added eight kills, two digs, and three blocks, while freshman defensive specialist,
Jessica Lee (Mackinaw, Illinois) kept the pace with 18 digs.

Both teams battled in the opening frame, as more than 10 ties occurred before the Argonauts came away with a 19-16 lead, forcing USI to call a timeout. Following the short break, the Eagles answered back with a kill by Winter, but it wasn't enough as West Florida came out with the 25-23 win. Ryan and DeShaney accounted for eight of USI's 15 kills in the first set. The Eagles, who were 15-for-32 with just three errors, outhit the Argonauts .375 to .351.

USI fought in the beginning of the second set to gain a lead, but four-straight kills by UWF's Autumn Duyn set the Eagles behind 7-3, a deficit they could not recover from, eventually falling 25-17. Southern Indiana struggled with its attacking game, hitting a .087 compared to the Argonauts' .311.

The third frame was all too familiar as the Eagles competed with West Florida for the lead, as the set featured nine tied scores and six lead changes. Back-to-back kills from senior outside hitter
Fawn Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) and sophomore middle blocker
Amy Zwissler (Bloomington, Indiana) put USI ahead, 19-18 towards the end of the set. Zwissler, who totaled four kills on the night, also came up at the net with three blocks, one of which was asolo. A back-and-forth battle continued to play on until the Eagles called a timeout, down 22-21. West Florida pulled away following the short break, capturing the set, 25-21.

Other all-around players included sophomore setter
Quin Shoultz (Columbus, Indiana) who totaled 28 assists, along with four digs and nine digs, while junior outside hitter
Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, Indiana) ended the night with four kills, three assists, one block, and 13 digs.

USI opens its Great Lakes Valley Conference slate Saturday, September 13 at 5 p.m. against William Jewell College, before taking on Rockhurst University Sunday, September 14 at 3 p.m. Both games will be played at the Physical Activities Center.

Announced following the conclusion of the tournament, Saturday evening was the 2014 Dunn Hospitality All-Tournament Team, which featured Winter and Lee from Southern Indiana.

After twelve sets played, Winter was second in blocks, totaling 16, averaging 1.33 per set, she also excelled in serving, tallying eight service aces. She put down 29 kills, averaging 2.42 per frame and ended the weekend hitting .309.

Lee had an outstanding performance at libero this weekend, leading the tournament in digs, totaling 64, averaging 5.33 per set.
