COLUMBUS, Ohio. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team dropped its season-opener, 4-2, to Ashland University at the Ohio Dominican Invitational in Columbus, Ohio. The Screaming Eagles (0-1-0) conclude the first half of the season-opening road swing Sunday when they play host, Ohio Dominican University, at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) in the invitational.

Madi Vellky (Dublin, Ohio) got the Eagles off to a strong start with a goal at 15:51 of the first half. The 1-0 USI lead would stand up through halftime.
In the second half, Ashland's offense kicked into gear and scored four unanswered goals to put USI in a 4-1 hole with under five minutes to play in the match. The Eagles would cut the deficit in half, 4-2, in the final minutes when freshman midfielder
Sadie Schumann (Aurora, Indiana) scored her first collegiate tally at the 86:12 mark.
USI would not get any closer in the final three minute before suffering the 4-2 loss. Junior goalkeeper
Jackie Lohmann (Owensboro, Kentucky) took the loss in goal for the Eagles, allowing the four goals and making four saves.
Overall, USI out shot Ashland, 12-10, but the AU Eagles had the advantage in corner kicks, 5-4.
