USI and Lewis battle to 0-0 draw

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team and Lewis University battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI goes to 1-5-2 overall and 0-4-2 GLVC, while Lewis watches its records go to 1-4-3 overall and a league-best 1-3-2 GLVC.
 
The Screaming Eagles and the Flyers traded shots throughout the 90 minutes of regulation with each team posting 13 shots. USI had more chances in the first half, leading 9-6 in shots, while Lewis had a 7-4 advantage in the second half.
 
Both teams continued to trade chances during both overtime periods with each getting four shots and one corner kick each. USI had the advantage in the first overtime in shots, 4-1, while Lewis had the only three chances in the final 10 minute overtime period.
 
Overall in the match, USI and Lewis had 17 shots each with Lewis having an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Between the posts for the Eagles, junior goalkeeper Jackie Lohmann (Owensboro, Kentucky) moved into sole possession of third place all-time at USI with her 15th career-shutout. Lohman, who has a pair of shutouts this season, faced the 17 Flyer shots and made six saves in the 110 minutes of action Sunday.
 
The Eagles hit the road next week when they travel to Saint Joseph's College Friday and the University of Indianapolis Sunday. Kick-off for Friday's match in Rensselaer, Indiana, is 7:30 p.m., while Sunday's start time in Indianapolis, Indiana, is 11 a.m. (CDT).
 
USI returns to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field October 10 when the Eagles host William Jewell College for a 5 p.m. match.
