Missed opportunities ground Eagles

EVANSVILLE, Ind.– The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team missed golden opportunities and fell short against  the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 1-0, Friday evening at Strassweg Field. The Screaming Eagles fall to 2-4-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the GLVC, while the Rangers go to 3-4-0, 1-4-0 GLVC.
 
The Rangers struck for the match's only goal late in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead at 31:53. The Eagles, despite trailing at the intermission, had the momentum for most of the opening 45 minutes, leading 11-7 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.
 
In the second half, USI continued to dominate possession of the ball and outshot UW-Parkside, 16-1, and had a 10-0 margin in corner kicks. The Eagles also had a man advantage for 23 minutes after Rangers' Nemanja Medic received a red card at 54:33.
 
USI also would go a man down at 77:28 when senior midfielder Carlos Mayser (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) received a red card. The Eagles would still get six more shots at the Rangers' goal in the final 13 minutes, but could not find a way to score.
 
The Eagles conclude the four-game homestand at 2:30 p.m. Sunday when they hosts Lewis University. The Flyers rose to 5-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the GLVC after posting a 2-0 win at the University of Illinois Springfield this evening.
