USI starts 2014 in Ohio Dominican classic


 
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team starts the 2014 regular-season campaign with a four-match road swing, beginning with the Ohio Dominican Classic in Columbus, Ohio. The Screaming Eagles are slated to play Ashland University Friday at 3:30 p.m. (CDT) in a neutral site match, while concluding play in the classic against the host, Ohio Dominican University, Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (CDT).

Week 1 Eagle Notes:
 
Winning Ways: The Eagles have posted winning records each of the last five seasons and appeared in four of the last five GLVC Tournaments.
 
On the road in 2013: USI hopes to improve upon its road record over 2013. The Eagles were 3-4-1 on the road last fall, compared to 6-3-0 at Strassweg Field.
 
Leading scorer returns for third season. Junior forward Madi Vellky returns for her junior season after leading the Eagles in scoring with 12 points on four goals and a team-high four assists in 2013. She also had a team-best three game-winning goals.
 
Between the posts. The Eagles return junior goalkeeper Jackie Lohmann between the posts in 2014. She had a 1.25 goals against average in 16 matches and 1,371 minutes of action. In two seasons, Lohmann has a 1.34 GAA in 34 games and 3,012 minutes of action.
 
Engelbrecht begins her 12th year. USI Head Coach Kristy Engelbrecht has an 86-99-13 overall record at USI, but is 49-36-1 in her last five seasons. .
 
USI leads all-time record with Ashland. The Eagles are 1-2-0 all-time against Ashland. Friday's match-up will be the first between the two programs since 2005 when USI fell to Ashland, 3-0, at Strassweg Field.
 
USI and Ohio Dominican tied, 1-1-0. USI and Ohio Dominican are tied in the all-time series, 1-1-0. The Eagles tied the all-time series at one match apiece with a 2-0 victory last fall at Strassweg Field.
 
Eagles vs. the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Ashland and Ohio Dominican are members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. USI has an all-time mark of 9-12-2 against members of the GLIAC.
