Eagles miss second half chances, fall 1-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind.– The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team failed to convert second half offensive chances and fell to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 1-0, Friday evening at Strassweg Field. The Screaming Eagles see their record go to 1-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the GLVC, while the Tritons goes to 4-0-1, 3-0-0 GLVC.
 
USI and UMSL battled to a scoreless draw during the first half. USI had the best of the chances, leading in shots, 5-3, during the opening 45 minutes.
 
In the second half, the Tritons got the margin of victory with a tally by Chris Pearson at the 61:15 mark. The Eagles had five great chances in the second half, but UMSL goalkeeper Nick Lenkman made one save on a shot by USI freshman midfielder Trevor Skeith (Gallatin, Tennessee) and four USI shots flew just high over the cross bar.
 
Overall, the Eagles had more chances than the Tritons, leading 11-7 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks.
 
USI junior goalkeeper Auston Bruder (Evansville, Indiana) played well between the posts despite getting the loss. Bruder had a pair of saves and allowed the goal.
 
The Eagles continues their four-game homestand Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when they host Maryville University. Sunday's match will be USI's third annual Go4theGoal match that promotes childhood cancer awareness. Admission is free of charge Sunday.
