Eagles return to GLVC East Division play

Game Notes

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division play Thursday at 4:30 p.m. (CDT) when it travels to Indianapolis to take on No. 23 University of Indianapolis. The Screaming Eagles also visit Saint Joseph's College Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rensselaer, Indiana, before coming back to the Physical Activities Center February 27 to host Bellarmine University in their regular-season finale.

Both games will be aired on WPSR 90.7 FM, while live stats, audio, and video are available at gousieagles.com.

The Eagles (15-8, 9-6 GLVC) enter the final three games of the regular-season with the piece and mind of having already clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament. USI, which is currently the No. 7 seed in the GLVC Tournament and in line to host a first-round home game, still has hopes of earning a first-round bye.

While the Eagles control their own destiny as far as hosting a first-round home game, the Eagles will need to win their final three games and get help in order to secure a bye into the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.

First and foremost are rematches with UIndy and Saint Joseph's. The Eagles defeated Saint Joseph's 69-56 at the PAC last month; then, without the services of leading scorer Anna Hackert, defeated the Greyhounds, 73-44, two days later.

Senior guard Stephanie Carpenter, who needs just one three-pointer to break the all-time school record for career three-pointers, led USI in their wins over Saint Joseph's and UIndy. Carpenter averaged 21.0 points per game in the two contests en route to earning GLVC Player of the Week honors for her efforts.

Carpenter, who needs 58 points to become the 14th player in program history to reach 1,000 for her career, is averaging 23.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in USI's last three contests. For the season, Carpenter is second on the team with 15.0 points per appearance.

Hackert is coming off her lowest scoring outputs of the season a week ago as she averaged just 4.0 points per contest. She is currently second in the GLVC with a team-best 18.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Last season, Hackert averaged 25.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in three contests against the Greyhounds.

Both UIndy and Saint Joseph's are coming off losses this past Saturday, while USI snapped a three-game skid with its 69-57 win over Missouri-St. Louis.

The Greyhounds, who are playing without the services of leading scorer Katy McIntosh, suffered an 87-75 loss to No. 11 Quincy University, while Saint Joseph's fell in overtime to Truman State University, 89-79.
