Hackert breaks rebounding record as Eagles crush Tigers

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Senior forward/center Anna Hackert (Evansville, Indiana) set a single-game school record for rebounds as the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team crushed Midwest Region opponent Salem International University, 87-41, Tuesday evening at the Physical Activities Center.

Hackert finished with 23 points and 24 rebounds, marking the first time in program history the Screaming Eagles have had a player with 20-plus points and 20-plus rebounds. It marks the second time in her career that Hackert has reached the 20-rebound plateau—she had 20 against Kentucky Wesleyan College in 2013.

USI's previous record for rebounds in a single game was 21, held by both Debbie Schutte (1977) and Jill Padgett (1977).

The Eagles (7-1) scored 11 of the game's first 13 points to build a nine-point edge seven minutes into the contest. USI used a 25-2 run later in the period as it cruised to a commanding 54-17 halftime advantage.

USI's defense stifled Salem International throughout the contest, particularly in the first half where it forced the Tigers into 17 turnovers. For the game, the Eagles turned 26 Salem International turnovers into 28 points.

Hackert, who tied a career-high with five assists, outscored the visiting Tigers in the opening period as she finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the first 20 minutes.

In addition to Hackert the Eagles had nine players with at least five points and three in double-figures.

Senior guard Libby Ogden (Tipton, Indiana) had 11 points in her first game back from an ankle injury that sidelined her for the first seven games of the year, while fellow classmate Mariah Nimmo (Groveland, Illinois) finished with 10 points.

USI also got nine points from senior forward/center Mary O'Keefe (Edwardsville, Illinois), while sophomore guards Tanner Marcum (New Albany, Indiana) and Kendyl Dearing (Huntingburg, Indiana) each added eight points.

Senior forward Amanda Jackson led Salem International (0-10) with 11 points and nine rebounds.

The Eagles return to action December 18 when they take on Northwest Nazarene University in the opening round of the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada.
