EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team concludes its longest homestand of the 2014-15 campaign when it hosts the seventh annual Bill Joergens Memorial Classic November 28-29 at the Physical Activities Center. The 2014 Bill Joergens Memorial Classic will feature USI, fifth-ranked Bellarmine University, Indiana University East, and Cedarville University.
The classic will start at 5:15 p.m. Friday when Bellarmine plays Cedarville, followed by USI taking on IU East at 7:30 p.m. The conclusion of the classic is Saturday (after the start of the USI women's basketball Thanksgiving Classic) when Bellarmine and IU East play at 5:15 p.m. and USI and Cedarville tip off at 7:30 p.m.

USI Men's Basketball Bill Joergens Memorial Classic Notes: History of the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic. The Bill Joergens Memorial Classic is dedicated to the memory of Bill Joergens, who played on the first USI men's basketball team in the late 1960s and continued his support of USI Athletics by becoming chair of the Varsity Club. A part of Joergens' legacy is the development of the Varsity Club Steak Fry and Auction, which has raised nearly $500,000 since 1992. Upon losing his battle with cancer, Joergens left a major portion of his estate to the USI men's basketball program. The estate funds this tournament and fifth-year scholarship aid for USI men's basketball players, who have exhausted their eligibility.
Schumann named GLVC Player of the Week after career-high against KSU. Senior guard
Gavin Schumann was named the GLVC Player of the Week for the first time in his USI career after averaging 25 points per game in the two Screaming Eagles victories. Schumann posted 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the come-from-behind win over Shorter University before completing the week with a career-high 33 points in the win over Kentucky State University.
Edwards posts double-doubles. Junior forward
George Edwards has posted a double-double in two of his first two games as an Eagle. He had 24 points and 14 rebounds in leading USI to a 91-86 overtime victory over Shorter University and 21 points and 12 rebounds in helping the Eagles to a win over Kentucky State University.
Improved free throw shooting to start year. The Eagles put together their best back-to-back free throw games in five years in the first two of the years. USI shot 83.8 percent (31-37) from the line in the first two games. This was the best two-game effort since they shot 85.2 percent (29-34) in road games at Kentucky Wesleyan College and Bellarmine University in 2010-11. For the season, the Eagles are shooting 78.4 percent from the line (58-74).
Non-conference foes have tough going against USI. USI opens the year 3-0 in non-conference games and is 188-21 (.900) against non-GLVC teams during the last 22 seasons. Of the 21 losses, two have come in the NCAA Division II Tournament Finals and three in the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional.
Indiana East in 2014-15. Indiana University East is 8-2 and is ranked 38

Bellarmine in 2014-15. Bellarmine, which moved to sixth in the first regular season NABC/Division II Top 25 poll, is 4-0 and 3-0 in

USI in the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic. USI is 13-1 in the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic that began in the 2007-08 season. The Eagles outscored their opponents in the six previous classics, 82.4-65.0 (1153-910).
