USI breaks winless streak with road victory

RENSSELAER, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team broke its six-match winless streak with a 1-0 victory at Saint Joseph's College Friday evening in Rensselaer, Indiana. USI, which wins its first GLVC match of the year, goes to 2-5-2 overall and 1-4-2 GLVC, while Saint Joseph's watches its records go to 1-8-1 overall, 0-6-1 GLVC.
 
After a scoreless 75 minutes, USI senior midfielder Maura Hulme (Westerville, Ohio) found the back of the Saint Joseph's goal with the game-winning tally with 14:53 left to play. Hulme was assisted on her first goal of the season by sophomore defender Gabriella Korte (St. Louis, Missouri).
 
USI goalkeeper Jackie Lohmann (Owensboro, Kentucky) posted her second-straight shutout in the Eagles' win. Lohmann faced three shots and made two saves.
 
The Eagles concludes the road swing Sunday when it travels to the University of Indianapolis. Kick-off Sunday is slated for 11 a.m. (CDT) in Indianapolis, Indiana. USI returns to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field October 10 when the Eagles host William Jewell College for a 5 p.m. match.
