USI wants strong finish to 2014

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team begins the final three-match stretch of 2014 looking for a strong finish and to build momentum for 2015. The Screaming Eagles (3-9-2, 2-8-2 GLVC) begin the final three-match stretch by celebrating Senior Night Friday at 5 p.m. when they host McKendree University at Strassweg Field.
 
USI will honor its  four seniors – forward Katelan Carneal (Evansville, Indiana), defender Maura Hulme (Westerville, Ohio), defender Rachael Mayse (Evansville, Indiana), and midfielder Jessica Scott (Louisville, Kentucky)  -- prior to Friday's match with McKendree.
 
Following Senior Night, the Eagles travel to the University of Illinois Springfield Sunday for a noon match-up and conclude the 2014 campaign by hosting Bellarmine University October 29 at 5 p.m. Live coverage of the GLVC matches, including live stats and video, can be found at gousieagles.com.
 
Week 8 Eagle Notes: 
 
Eagles looking to stop streak. The Eagles enter this week's action looking to break a three-match losing streak after going 0-2-0 against Drury University and Missouri University of Science & Technology last weekend.
 
Korte leads the Eagles in scoring. Sophomore defender Gabriella Korte (St. Louis, Missouri) leads the Eagles in scoring after 14 matches with five points on one goal and a team-high three assists. Junior forward Madi Vellky (Dublin, Ohio) and freshman forward Haley Rheinlander (Evansville, Indiana) have four points each on a team-best two goals. Senior midfielder Maura Hulme (Westerville, Ohio) also has four points on one goal and two assists.
 
Engelbrecht is in her 12th year. USI Head Coach Krissy Engelbrecht has an 89-109-15 overall record at USI, but is 52-45-3 in her last six seasons.
 
McKendree visits Strassweg to start the Eagles' week. USI starts the week by hosting McKendree (6-9-0, 5-7-0 GLVC) and is looking to increase its 5-4-1 all-time lead over the Bearcats. The Eagles and Bearcats battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie last year in Lebanon, Illinois.
 
USI looks to remain perfect against Illinois Springfield. The Eagles hope to remain perfect against Illinois Springfield (2-10-2, 0-10-2 GLVC) when they visit the Prairie Stars Sunday in Springfield, Illinois. USI holds a 5-0-0 advantage over Illinois Springfield after defeating the Stars, 1-0, last fall at Strassweg Field. Illinois Springfield visits Bellarmine on Friday before hosting USI.
 
Eagles hope to break 10-match winless streak with Knights. USI enters the 2014 season finale looking to break a 10-match winless streak against Bellarmine (11-2-2, 9-1-2 GLVC). The Knights, who host Illinois Springfield Friday before visiting McKendree Sunday and USI  on October 29, lead the all-time series with the Eagles, 12-6-2, after taking a 3-0 decision last year in Louisville, Kentucky. USI has not posted a win over Bellarmine since 2004.
