Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois) was named the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Screaming Eagles to a 3-0 record last week.
Winter averaged 4.12 points per set as USI posted four-set victories over Kentucky State University, McKendree University, and the University of Illinois Springfield.
Against Kentucky State, Winter racked up 11 kills, four blocks, and a .381 attacking percentage as the Eagles snapped a two-match losing streak. She returned Friday night to post 11 kills, five blocks, and three aces in USI's four-set road win over McKendree.
Winter concluded the week with 12 kills, a .400 attacking percentage, two aces, and eight blocks in USI's come-from-behind victory over Illinois Springfield.
For the week, Winter averaged 2.83 kills, 0.50 aces, and 1.42 blocks per frame. She also posted a blistering .366 attacking percentage. On the year, Winter is second in the GLVC with 1.31 blocks per set and is second on the team with 3.59 points per frame.
USI returns to the Physical Activities Center Tuesday at 6 p.m. when it hosts Midwest Region foe Cedarville University. The Eagles also take part in the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Friday and Saturday in Aurora, Illinois. USI plays Ashland University and Northwood University Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively, before concluding the Crossover with Walsh University Saturday at 1 p.m.
