USI upsets No. 18 Wheeling Jesuit 3-0

PENSACOLA, FL--- Just a few hours after suffering a disappointing loss to No. 4 University of Minnesota-Duluth, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team upset No. 18 Wheeling Jesuit University 25-17, 25-16, 25-22.

USI improved to 2-2 overall in its final game of the University of West Florida Hemingway's Invitational.

Junior outside hitter Lauren Deshaney led the attack with 11 kills and a .417 attack percentage, followed by sophomore right side hitter
Erica Oberbroeckling with 10 kills and a .400 attack percentage.

The Screaming Eagles were not only hot on offense, but defense too. USI tallied 11 team blocks with freshman middle blocker

Jorae Bradbury totaled 10 and nine digs, respectively.

In the opening set WJU tied the score at 10-10 but the Eagles took control of the court grabbing a 21-15 lead. Zwissler and Oberbroeckling each put two kills down to win the first set for USI.

USI came out swinging in the second set keeping the Cardinals behind the whole time. Sophomore middle blocker
Abbey Winter led the attack in set two with five kills and a .833 attack percentage.

The Cardinals put up a fight in the third set but committed key errors giving the Eagles the needed points for the match win.

USI returns to action Friday at 9:30 a.m. (CDT) when it takes on Mercyhurst University in its first match of the "Towneplace Suites" Classic in Findlay, Ohio.
