KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team saw Rockhurst University make a second half goal stand up for a 1-0 victory Friday evening in Kansas City, Missouri. USI falls to 4-2-0 overall and 2-2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Rockhurst rises to 4-0-2, 3-0-2 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles and the Hawks battled to a scoreless tie in the first half with each team posting five shots. USI had the slight advantage in the opening minutes with a 3-2 lead in shots on-goal.
In the second half, Rockhurst grabbed a slight edge in the momentum and scored the game's only goal at 74:10. Hawks midfielder Katie Kujawa headed in the game-winner, while the Rockhurst defense held on for the victory.
The match was very even with both teams recording four shots on-goal and six corner kicks each. Rockhust had the advantage overall with a 13-9 lead in total shots.
The Eagles conclude the short two-match road swing Sunday at noon when they visit William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. William Jewell saw its record go to 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the GLVC after a 2-0 win at home over the University of Illinois Springfield Friday night.
Following the two-game road swing, the Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field October 4 and October 6 when they play the University of Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's College respectively.
