Eagles finally open home schedule Saturday





EVANSVILLE, Ind.--- After opening the season with 10 consecutive matches away from home, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team will finally get to enjoy the friendly confines of the Physical Activities Center.
 
The Screaming Eagles will kick off the home portion of the 2013 schedule with matches Saturday night against the University of Missouri of Science and Technology and Sunday afternoon versus Drury University. First serve is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, followed by a 1 p.m. start Sunday.
 
Current standing: USI enters the weekend with an overall record of 7-3. The Eagles are 1-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action, with their first league victory coming in a five-set thriller last Sunday at William Jewell College.  USI rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take the final two sets in that match to register the win. The Eagles started league play by falling in four to Rockhurst the day before.
 
USI leads GLVC in blocks and service aces. The Eagles are averaging 2.57 blocks and 1.67 service aces per set, and are second in the league in hitting percentage (.218). USI ranks third in opponent hitting percentage (.166), fifth in assists (11.64/set) and sixth in kills (12.28/set).
 
Current team leaders: Junior outside hitter Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, WI) leads the Eagles with 112 kills, while Junior outside hitter Fawn Ryan (Batesville, IN) and sophomore right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, IN) follow with 90 apiece. Senior setter Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, IN) leads the pack with 343 assists, averaging 9.53 per set. Defensively, senior libero Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, IN) has 164 digs under her belt. Freshman middle blocker Amy Zwissler (Bloomington, IN) and sophomore Abbey Winter (Germantown, IL) lead with 38 and 37 blocks, respectively.
  
Missouri S&T notes: West Division opponent Missouri S&T will bring a 6-4 overall record and a perfect 2-0 GLVC slate into Saturday's match. The Miners opened league play last week at home, and swept both the University of Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's College.
 
Eagles vs. Miners: USI is 7-1 in the all-time series with Missouri S&T. The two teams met last season in Indianapolis, Indiana, during the first round of GLVC Tournament, with the Miners winning in straight sets, 3-0.
 
Drury notes: The Panthers are 6-6 on the year and 1-1 in the GLVC. Drury opened conference action, sweeping Saint Joseph's College, 3-0, and losing to the University of Indianapolis, 0-3.
 
Eagles vs. Panthers: USI leads the all-time series with the Panthers, 10-2. The Eagles last faced Drury in 2011 on the Panthers' home court, sweeping them 3-0.

Ticket Information: Ticket prices for all USI regular-season home matches are $5 for adults (ages 18 and over) and $3 for non-USI students (ages 6-17).
