KANSAS CITY, Mo.---The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team battled, but was unable to keep the momentum it gained after a second-set win, eventually falling 1-3 to Rockhurst University in both teams' Great Lakes Valley Conference opener Friday night.
 
With the loss, the Screaming Eagles fall to 6-3 overall, 0-1 in GLVC action while the Hawks improve to 7-2 overall, 1-0 in conference play.
 
Junior outside hitter Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, WI) and Junior outside hitter Fawn Ryan (Batesville, IN) led the attack for the Eagles with 12 and ten kills, respectively. Defensively, senior libero Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, IN) registered a match-high 18 digs to try to keep her team in the game.  
 
USI returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when it travels to Liberty, Missouri to take on William Jewell. The Cardinals opened up GLVC play Friday afternoon against Bellarmine University falling 3-1 to the Knights.
