FINDLAY, OH---The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team completed a perfect showing at the TownePlace Suites Findlay Classic in Findlay, OH, sweeping both Malone University and Hillsdale College Saturday.
To top off the successful run, three Screaming Eagles (6-2) earned tournament recognition: Junior outside hitter
Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, WI) was named Tournament MVP, senior
Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, IN) earned outstanding libero honors, and sophomore middle blocker
Abbey Winter (Germantown, IL) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
USI was on fire in the day's opening match, needing only 1 hour, 5 minutes to dispatch Malone University (4-3), 26-24, 25-16, 25-11. DeShaney and junior outside hitter
Fawn Ryan (Batesville, IN) combined for 22 kills to push the Eagles past MU.
Hillsdale (3-5) put up a fight in the nightcap, but the Eagles escaped with tight wins in all three sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-23).
Ryan was the Eagles' workhorse against the Chargers, leading the team with 12 kills while adding six digs and three blocks.
Also providing a steady presence for USI was senior setter
Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, IN), who finished the day with 58 assists. On defense Heldman totaled 33 digs, while sophomore middle blocker
Amy Zwissler (Bloomington, IN) ended the day with 10 blocks.
The Eagles leap into Great Lakes Valley Conference action this week, traveling to Rockhurst University on Saturday and William Jewel College on Sunday.
