Volleyball grabs two on first day of tourney

FINDLAY, OH---
The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team defeat both Mercyhurst College (3-2) and The University of Findlay (4-2) in four sets, on the first day of the TownePlace Suites Classic in Findlay, OH.
In game one, sophomore middle blocker Abbey Winter (Germantown, IL) led the Eagles with 11 kills for a .500 attacking percentage, and recorded two solo blocks. Senior libero Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, IN) had 26 digs, while senior setter Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, IN) tallied 35 assists.  As a team, USI had nine total blocks for the match.
After losing the first set 27-25, the Eagles got it together and powered through the next three sets to claim the victory over the deflated Lakers. 
In the night cap against the Oilers, USI led 2-0, limiting the tournament hosts to just 10 points in set two. Findlay answered right back, capitalizing on USI errors, and grabbing the third set 25-20. It was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams in set four, with the score tying up 14 times. The Eagles proved to be victorious claiming the match with a 26-24 set win. 
Junior outside hitter Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, WI) led the attack for USI with 17 kills. On defense, Heldman tallied 18 digs, while Winter came up with six blocks, including one solo. 
The Eagles conclude the TownePlace Suites Classic Saturday with matches against Malone University and Hillsdale College at Noon (CDT) and 4 p.m. (CDT), respectively.
