Eagles shutout by Prairie Stars in GLVC opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern of Southern Indiana men's soccer team could not get the offense going and lost a 1-0 decision to the University of Illinois Springfield Friday night at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 1-1-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while UIS goes to 2-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 GLVC.

The Prairie Stars scored the only tally of the game when UIS'Chukwuka Iwe scored on a break away at the 15:47 mark of the opening half. The Screaming Eagles had their chances offensively, out shooting the Prairie Stars, 16-5 overall, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 9-2.

USI missed their best chance to score with three minutes to play when it had back-to-back corner kicks, but could not find the back of the net. The Eagles finished the contest with six shots on-goal.

On the defensive side of the field, USI limited UIS to only three shots on-goal. Senior goalkeeper Jeffrey Neidlinger (Carmel, Indiana) made a pair of saves, while allowing the single goal in the loss.

The Eagles finish the first GLVC weekend of the season Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when they travel to McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois. McKendree fell to 2-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the GLVC after losing at Bellarmine University, 3-0, this afternoon.
