USI women's soccer launches into GLVC schedule

Eagles entertain UIS; journey to McKendree
 
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team launches the 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule Friday when it entertains the University of Illinois Springfield before journeying to McKendree University Sunday. USI and UIS begin Friday at 5 p.m., while the Eagles journey to play McKendree Sunday at noon in Lebanon, Illinois.
 
The Screaming Eagles (2-0-0) were 9-5-1 last year in the GLVC placing sixth in the regular season. USI, which is still looking for its first GLVC crown, lost in the first round of the 2012 GLVC Tournament.  
 
WEEK 1 EAGLE NOTES:
 
First week for USI: The Eagles were 2-0-0 and were one of four teams in the GLVC to win both matches to open the 2013 season last weekend. USI defeated Ohio Dominican University, 2-0, and Urbana University, 4-0 to start the year at Strassweg Field. The six goals in the two matches had six different goal scorers. USI also has had six different players be credited with assists.
 
Lohmann in the goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Lohmann (Owensboro, Kentucky) has been perfect in the first two matches for USI. Lohman has not allowed a goal in 135 minutes of action for the Eagles, making three saves. Freshman Stacey DePriest (Fishers, Indiana) finished the win over Urbana Monday afternoon, playing the second half and making one save in 45 minutes of action.
 
Eagles vs. UIS: USI is perfect in the all-time series with UIS, 4-0-0. The Eagles defeated the Prairie Stars, 1-0, last year on the road on a goal by senior forward Julia Kohnen (Florissant, Missouri)
 
UIS in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars (1-0-0), who won their only match of the opening weekend, was 14th last year in the GLVC and are picked to place 15th this fall.  
 
Eagles vs. McKendree. USI lead the all-time series with McKendree, 5-4-0, and has won two of the last three meetings. The Eagles won their inaugural GLVC meeting with McKendree last fall, 3-0, in Lebanon, Illinois. USI sophomore forward Madi Vellky (Dublin, Ohio) opened the scoring, while former USI players Susan Ellsperman and Paige Nuelle sealed the victory. Vellky also had an assist on Nuelle's goal.
 
McKendree in the GLVC. The Bearcats (1-1-0) split their season opening weekend, losing to Missouri Valley College and defeating Baker University. McKendree, which was not eligible to compete for the GLVC crown last year was eighth during the regular season and eighth this fall.
