Complete Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana junior outfielder
Brad Wannemuehler (Evansville, Indiana) was named Capital One/CoSIDA third-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The honor is the first for Wannemuehler, who is the third USI baseball player to earn the award in the last 10 years and the first since 2007.
Previous USI baseball players to be named Academic All-America are Matt Keener (first-team, 2004 and 2005) and Darin Mastroianni (third-team, 2007).
To be eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America program, the student athlete must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). They must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and first-year athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.
Wannemuehler, an accounting and professional services major, hit .314 with 14 RBIs, 27 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, and 10 stolen bases. The junior outfielder tied a career-high three hits in three separate games – Lake Erie College, Brescia University, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside – and three RBIs against McKendree University. He also had six multi-hit games and four multi-RBI contests in his 41 games this spring.
The Eagles finished 2012 with a 30-19 overall mark and a 19-16 GLVC record.
