Eagles grounded by the Knights in regional semifinals

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 15th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team had its post-season ended by 14th-ranked Bellarmine University, 78-55, Sunday evening in Springfield, Missouri. USI, the second seed, concludes 2012-13 with a 23-8 overall mark, while Bellarmine, the third-seed, advances with a 24-7 record to Tuesday's regional championship game.
 
The Screaming Eagles struggled mightily in the opening 20 minutes. USI shot just 31.8 percent from the field (7-22) and committed 11 turnovers. Senior center Keith DeWitt (High Point, North Carolina) led the Eagles with 16 of the team's 22 points.
 
USI started to show a little life on the offense side of the court to open the second half, but Bellarmine continued to have the hot hand the contest, shooting over 75 percent from the field for most of the second half. The Knight also hit 11 three-point field goals, six coming in the second half.  
 
Individually, USI was led by DeWitt with a game-high 24 points. He finished the contest nine-of-15 from the field and six-of-six from the charity stripe, while grabbing seven rebounds.
 
Junior forward Orlando Rutledge (Louisville, Kentucky) was the only other Eagle close to double-digits with nine points, followed by senior guard Melvyn Little (Louisville, Kentucky) with seven points off the bench.
