The Screaming Eagles, who made their third tournament appearance in four years, finish their 2013 campaign with a 24-9 overall record. USI was held to just .113 on offense, compared to Ashland who finished with a .325 attacking percentage and nine blocks to slow the Screaming Eagles' offense down.

The opening set was a battle of the Eagles as Ashland came out swinging, though USI fought to keep up. Down 9-6, a 5-1 run allowed AU to hold its leading position and take the first frame 25-15.

Even though USI jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the second set, Ashland answered back with a 6-0 run of its own. AU would hold the front position until the Screaming Eagles powered through another 4-0 run to take an 18-17 lead, and force Ashland to call a timeout. AU returned to the court grabbing the second set 25-22.

Winter registered USI's first four points in the third frame, though Southern Indiana could not come up with enough points for an early lead.
