ROMEOVILLE, Ill. ---The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team battled through four sets against No. 24 Truman State University, but ultimately suffered a 3-1 loss (18-25, 22-25, 25-20, 13-25) to the Bulldogs in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament in Romeoville, Illinois, Friday night.

USI finished the match with an attack percentage of .190, registering 56 kills, 26 errors and 158 total attempts, and was lead by junior outside hitter
Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, Wisconsin) with 18 kills. Junior outside hitter
Fawn Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) added 15 kills, while sophomore right side hitter
Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, Indiana) ended with a double-double, tallying 12 kills and 12 digs.

Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, Indiana) and senior libero
Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, Indiana) finished with team-highs of 47 assists and 22 digs.

Truman State entered the opening set ready to battle, grabbing an early 9-3 lead. USI made up some ground with a 4-0 run, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs extended their lead to 16-11. A 4-0 run later in the set by Truman State was the set-changer as the Bulldogs ran away with a 25-18 win.

USI bounced back in set two, holding the lead until Truman State came from behind, tying the game 15-15. The Eagles were unable to overtake TU, falling 25-22 and down 2-0.

Set three belonged to USI as the Eagles jumped out to a 13-9 lead, forcing the Bulldogs to call a timeout. USI held its lead until the end, claiming set three 25-20.

The Eagles, who were plagued by attacking errors in the fourth set, could not keep the momentum going and quickly fell behind, 16-10. Truman State powered through to take the set, 25-13, and outhit USI .306 to -.047.

The Eagles return home at 24-8 overall, and find out their NCAA Regional fate Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Truman State (22-10) will continue on to the semifinals tomorrow, and face the winner of the Lewis University vs. University of Missouri-St. Louis match.Â
