Eagles start regular season on the road

USI travels to KWC to begin 2013-14

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 18th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team opens the 2013-14 regular season in a familiar road setting when it travels to 12th-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College (1-1) for a non-conference match-up Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. USI's season opener at the Sportscenter marks the first time in 26 years that the Screaming Eagles (0-0) have begun the year on the opponent's home court.

The Eagles open the home schedule at 7:30 p.m. November 23 when they host Lake Erie College at the Physical Activities Center.
 
USI Men's Basketball vs. KWC Quick Notes:
 
USI stumbles in second exhibition contest. USI struggled to get on track during the exhibition loss at the University of Tennessee, falling 78-47 November 7 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Senior forward Aaron Nelson led the Screaming Eagles with nine points, while junior guard Gavin Schumann and junior guard/forward Alex Marzette dropped in eight points and seven points, respectfully.
 
Eagles showed promise in first exhibition game.  USI lost 83-68 to Indiana University October 26, but showed promise for the upcoming 2013-14 season. Senior forward Aaron Nelson led the way with 14 points, while senior forward Taylor Wischmeier followed with a double-double, 13 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Austin Davis rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.
 
Last Year between USI and KWC. The Eagles swept the Panthers in the final Great Lakes Valley Conference series between the two programs. USI took the opener at the Sportscenter, 72-53, and the conference–series finale, 71-55. Orlando Rutledge led USI in both victories, scoring 14 points in the first game and 23 points in the second.
 
USI versus KWC. KWC leads the all-time series, 49-38, but USI has won 12 of the last 17 games. The Eagles also have won six and split two of the last 10 season-series against the Panthers.
 
Both teams are ranked. Since 1992-93, KWC leads the series, 18-11, when both teams are ranked in the top 25. Of the last 39 games between the two institutions, both teams have been in the top-10 17 times and in the top-five nine times at game time. USI is ranked 18th and KWC is 12th in this year's  NABC/Division II Preseason Top 25 poll.
 
Series Record at the Sportscenter: KWC leads the series, 27-12, at the Sportscenter, but USI has won six of the last eight meetings on the Panthers' home court.
 
Non-conference match-ups between USI and KWC. KWC leads the series in non-GLVC games, 13-8 (Regular Season Non-Conference: 3-2; GLVC Tournament or Playoff: 5-2; NCAA II Tournament: 5-2).
 
Before the Eagles visit. Before the Panthers welcome the Eagles on Tuesday, KWC travels to Young Harris College in Georgia on November 16. The Panthers will have three regular season contests under their belt before the Eagles come to the Sportscenter.
