Volleyball bounces back to take Pumas in four

RENSSELAER, Ind.--- Junior outside hitter Fawn Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) pounded a match-high 13 kills on Friday night to lead the surging University of Southern Indiana Volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Saint Joseph's College. The Screaming Eagles improve to 10-3, 4-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Pumas stumbled to 4-10, 1-4 GLVC.
 
Game one was all USI as the Eagles ran away with a 25-15 set-win, hitting .357.
 
The Eagles rolled past the Pumas 25-14 in set two, hoping to make it a sweep going into intermission.
 
St. Joseph's came back from the break fired up, grabbing a 19-12 lead and forcing USI to take a timeout. The time to regroup wasn't enough for USI as the Pumas ran away with a 25-22 set-win. USI ended set three hitting a negative .057.
 
It was a battle in game four, but the Eagles proved to be triumphant, grabbing the set, 25-22.
 
Ryan's 13 kills came on just 27 attempts, giving her a splendid .333 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, Wisconsin) added eight kills and senior setter Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, Indiana) guided the offense with 32 assists. Senior libero Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, Indiana) and sophomore right side hitter Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, Indiana) had double-digit figures in digs with 17 and 12, respectively. Freshman and sophomore middle blockers Amy Zwissler (Bloomington, Indiana) and Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois) had six blocks apiece.
 
Anna Sacco had 12 kills to lead the Pumas, while Alyssa Guamaccia was credited with 15 digs and Erin Hyland went for four blocks.
 
The Eagles out hit the Pumas .163 to .027 for the match
 
USI returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. (CDT) when it visits No. 24 University of Indianapolis. The Greyhounds ran their winning streak to four on Friday with a four-set win over Bellarmine University.
